News photographers in Haiti

I thought to share a quote from New York Times's Lens Blog that helped me refocus what I want to accomplish as a visual journalist. This quote is from "Essay: Too Many Angles on Suffering?" by Patrick Witty

Christopher Anderson of Magnum:
"I have never felt comfortable covering natural disasters. Wars and other types of human-made tragedies are different. There are questions of right and wrong, justice and injustice, political complications, et cetera. I feel like my voice as an observer has a purpose.

"But with an earthquake or tsunami, I don’t have a purpose. There is no need for explanation or contemplation. There is only the immediate need for the news photographers to go and report what has happened.

"I am not a news photographer. I would just be composing pictures of misery. Not to mention being another mouth to feed and another camera in the face of someone who has just lost everything. In the days and weeks immediately after something like this, all that matters is that the news pictures help drive a response of aid. I didn’t feel like there was anything I could add to that. They didn’t need me getting in the way."

And for the sake of an opposing view, here's a video from David Gilkey of NPR: "David Gilkey On Photographing Haiti"

2) STOP PROCRASTINATING!!!!!!!!!!! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
3) Maintain an unwaned (found out "unwane" is not a word. replace with unwavering) standard of organized hw flow no matter what surprise challenges its structure
4) Learn to speak up for myself more often. (And wisely choose my battles haha)
5) Regain health by re-establishing metabolism, avoiding sugary foods, and ridding my anemia! doable.

My introduction to Guns N' Roses

Super quick post:

I thought I had a final tomorrow, but I found out this morning that it's today.
That pretty much sums up how I'm feeling right now.

I stumbled across this song, and I luhvvvvvv it. I've never really given Guns N' Roses a second listen until now. I especially love the beginning.

NOW back to studying!!

P.S.
I found out earlier this week that iMeem.com has been eaten by Myspace Music :( What I really liked about iMeem was the ease of searching for specific songs or artists. I can do it on Myspace too, but it's such a pain having to wade through all the decked out profile pages.

VuVox Collage - 13th Ballroom Classic at SJSU

Happy Thanksgiving! I took these photos last Saturday. This was my first time attending a ballroom dance competition. It was pretty fun to watch. I have no dance skills whatsoever but that's a different blog post :) If you'd like to view this through a larger scale, click here to go to its vuvox.com page.

Funny Glee scene

I <3 Glee. I laughed out loud when I saw this scene from episode 2 from the first season. Showing a different side of any story character is always interesting :)

Cute skit on Korean tv show (with subs)

I have a four page essay due tomorrow, and I have yet to decide on my thesis. Eek. ANYWAY,

I gotta admit.. this skit is pretty cute, despite its unrealistic outcome (I make it a point to be pessimistic about these kinds of things).

I don't know who the two kids are, but their grown-up counterparts in the skit are both in popular bands in South Korea. The last guy is Nickhun from the boy band 2PM, and the older girl is YoonA from girl group So Nyuh Shi Dae (SNSD/Girls' Generation). The guy in the glasses playing the fake Nickhun is... someone I don't know. They don't film the audience in this show, so the people seated in the blue seats are star guests. Enjoy the cute skit :]

"I love you" by Mate

I heard this song during one of Taeyeon's ChinChin recorded radio shows. Since I don't understand the language (yet. haha), I posted a comment asking if anyone could tell me the song's title and original singer, and about a week later someone replied saying it's "난 너를 사랑해 by 메이트(Be Mate)."

I would love to find out the lyrics of this simple and emotional song, but I'm sleepy.

'난 너를 사랑해'(I love you) - 메이트(Mate).
